Les textes de cette publication sont un mélange d’aphorismes inventés, de phrases partielles et de citations tirées de deux livres : White Collar : the American Middle Classes de C. Wright Mills et The Corrosion of Character de Richard Sennett. Dans son ouvrage de référence en sociologie, Mills décrit l’essor du travail de bureau dans l’économie américaine et l’impact déshumanisant que les structures hiérarchiques et le manque d’autodétermination ont sur les travailleurs. Sennett s’appuie sur ces réflexions et examine l’influence que le monde professionnel d’aujourd’hui, caractérisé par la flexibilité et l’individualisme, exerce sur le caractère humain et sur la rupture des liens sociaux.
Les textes choisis dialoguent avec des dessins très détaillés de genoux. Indispensable pour nous maintenir debout, la plus grosse articulation de notre corps est extrêmement vulnérable aux blessures et exposée à l’aversion et à la honte. The texts in this publication are a mixture of invented aphorisms and partial sentences and quotes from two books—White Collar: the American Middle Classes by C. Wright Mills and The Corrosion of Character by Richard Sennett. In his seminal work of sociology, Mills describes the rise of clerical work in the American economy and the dehumanizing impact that hierarchical structures and lack of self-determination have on workers. Sennett builds upon these thoughts and examines the influence that today’s professional world, characterized by flexibility and individualism, has on human character and on the breakdown of social bonds.
The chosen texts interact with highly detailed drawings of knees. Indispensable in maintaining us upright, the largest joint in our bodies is extremely vulnerable to injury and susceptible to dislike and shame.
